Is there a cost to attend?

No. This training is funded by BJA and is free to all sworn officers employed by state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies. In addition, if space allows, nonsworn agency support staff, such as dispatchers/telecommunicators, chaplains, and peer support team members; corrections professionals; and federal law enforcement are welcome to attend SAFLEO training.

Are travel and lodging costs covered?

No. Participants are responsible for associated travel and lodging expenses.

Is in-service training credit available?

Many SAFLEO trainings are certified through the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) National Certification Program™. Trainings that do not offer credit through IADLEST still offer a certificate of attendance, which may be submitted to your state law enforcement authority for credit.

What is the dress code for this training?

This training is strictly classroom-based. Appropriate dress is business casual or uniform, if required by your agency.

Are federal law enforcement officers allowed to attend?

While this training is primarily for state, local, and tribal officers, federal law enforcement officers may attend on a space-available basis.

Overview:

The Train-the-Trainer Workshop offers an in-depth exploration of suicide risk factors and the latest techniques and resources for combating these risks. Through group discussions and hands-on learning, you will be equipped to help train and educate your agency to combat suicide. You will also become more knowledgeable of available resources and programs and their implementation at your agency.

This workshop will enable established trainers and instructors to support their agencies’ programs and encourage and affect behavioral and organizational culture change. Participants will have the opportunity to hone their instructional skills by facilitating a topic from the Line Officer Training course.

This is a 2-day training that will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ET, each day with a 1-hour break for lunch (on your own).

In order to attend, you must have successfully completed either the SAFLEO Line Officer Training or the SAFLEO Leadership and Supervision Training in the last two years.

This continuing education activity is approved by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) and deemed valid for the purpose of in-service training credits with all participating states within the United States.
